Troparion - Tone 3 (Resurrection) 

Let the heavens rejoice! / Let the earth be glad! / For the Lord has shown strength with His arm. / He has trampled  down death by death. / He has become the first born of the dead. / He has delivered us from the depths of hell, /  and has granted to the world//great mercy. 

Troparion - Tone 4 (Feast)  

Your nativity, O Virgin, / has proclaimed joy to the whole universe! / The Sun of righteousness, Christ our God, /  has shone from you, O Theotokos. / By annulling the curse, / He bestowed a blessing.//By destroying death, He has  granted us eternal life. 

Kontakion – Tone 3 (Resurrection) 

On this day You rose from the tomb, O Merciful One, / leading us from the gates of death. / On this day Adam  exults as Eve rejoices; / with the Prophets and Patriarchs//they unceasingly praise the divine majesty of Your power.

See with what large letters I have written to you with my own hand! As many as desire  to make a good showing in the flesh, these would compel you to be circumcised, only that they may not suffer  persecution for the cross of Christ. For not even those who are circumcised keep the law, but they desire to have you  circumcised that they may boast in your flesh. But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus  Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor  uncircumcision avails anything, but a new creation. And as many as walk according to this rule, peace and mercy be  upon them, and upon the Israel of God. From now on let no one trouble me, for I bear in my body the marks of the  Lord Jesus. The Reading is from the Holy Epistle of St. Paul to the Philippians (2:5-11) (Feast)

Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to  be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of  men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even  the death of the cross. Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every  name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under  the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

The Reading is from the Holy Gospel according to St John (3:13-17) (Sunday Before) and St. Matthew (19:16-26)  (Resurrection) 

No one has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven, that is, the Son of Man who is in heaven. And  as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in  Him should not perish but have eternal life. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that  whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to  condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. 

Now behold, one came and said to Him, “Good Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?” So  He said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God. But if you want to enter into life,  keep the commandments.” He said to Him, “Which ones?” Jesus said, “’You shall not murder,’ ‘You shall not commit  adultery,’ ‘You shall not steal,’ ‘You shall not bear false witness,’ ’Honor your father and your mother,’ and, ‘You shall  love your neighbor as yourself.’ “ The young man said to Him, “All these things I have kept from my youth. What do I  still lack?” Jesus said to him, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have  treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.” But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful, for he  had great possessions. Then Jesus said to His disciples, “Assuredly, I say to you that it is hard for a rich man to enter  the kingdom of heaven. And again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich  man to enter the kingdom of God. When His disciples heard it, they were greatly astonished, saying, “Who then can  be saved?” But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are  possible.” 

The Reading is from the Holy Gospel according to St Luke (10:38-42; 11:27-28) (Feast) 

Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha welcomed Him  into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet and heard His word. But Martha was  distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to  serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.” And Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried  and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken  away from her.” And it happened, as He spoke these things, that a certain woman from the crowd raised her voice and  said to Him, “Blessed is the womb that bore You, and the breasts which nursed You!” But He said, “More than that,  blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it!”

Magnify, O my soul, the most glorious birth of the Mother of God! 

Virginity is foreign to mothers; 

childbearing is strange for virgins. 

But in you, O Theotokos, both were accomplished.//
